take responsibility for your journey…

“Notice that opportunity lurks where responsibility has been abdicated.”
- Jordan Peterson
Sometimes an individual can find himself stuck at a plateau, feeling lost and like nothing is going on in his life. These situations happen continuously either after a big win or a big loss, as they destroy all the momentum that one has gained.
As an example when one finishes school, which represents a big accomplishment in that person’s journey, he will feel lost because on the day of graduation, he had just conquered that task and now he is at the bottom of the hierarchy of society as an adult.
During these moments, there is a way to act virtuously that is within reach for everyone at any time at the cost of discipline and temporary discomfort. That way will inevitably lead to a much better situation and constant growth, if not in material possessions, surely in personal growth.
This way is taking responsibility for one’s life and understanding that the game of life never stops and failing to understand such a concept will lead to things getting worse as a result of entropy.
Imagine now the same young adult, who just finished college and instead of looking for a job the week after graduation, he rests on his laurels and decides to take some time to rest.
What would the outcome of that decision be?
The individual will get lazier and the momentum will start to build in the opposite direction, instead of wanting to push forward, his mind will start to desire more and more comfort, or it will try to disguise the lack of ability to take responsibility by busying itself with other activities that will give the individual the illusion that he is indeed taking responsibility for his life.
The concept to understand here is that one will always know what is the thing to be done when he hits a plateau and instead of busying himself with meaningless things, one would never commit a mistake by aiming at completing the hardest things he can conceptualize.
Take responsibility for your journey.
